La história de Buzios
Around 1501 and 1502 the portugueses, newcomers to Brazil, made a reconnaissance expedition along the current territory of Cabo Frio and Buzios, who christened with the name of Formosa Bay.

Buzios era un muelle natural para piratas y colonizadores In Buzios there is a relationship with foreigners coming from the time of discovery of Brazil. According to Cunha (1996), in the sixteenth century tupinambás Indians occupied this area, where he practiced fishing, hunting and growing manioc and corn. They remained close relations with French pirates and smugglers, who were hiding in the locality to smuggle timber, mainly the pau-brasil (Caesalpinia echinata), and sell slaves. Later, in the seventeenth century, the French were expelled by the Portuguese after bloody disputes that the indigenous population decreased significantly. Some time later, the area was destined for agriculture and cattle raising activities of large estates, where fishing in this stretch of coastline strictly forbidden. At the end of the ban, the local economy remained for a long period based on fishing and small-scale agriculture, until mid-twentieth century, when efforts began to emerge totally different from the traditional tourism-related.
