Tauá Reserve in Buzios is an archaeological, antropologic and geologic reserve. In Bosque da Restinga, through tracks in Tauá, you can find a great amount of bromelias, cactáceos and exotic lianas. It is a green labyrinth of much mystery, with some full containers of fruits to feed the wild animals throughout the way. It is possible to see hand-bare, cachorros of the weeds, monkey-i nail, cotias, armadillos and many other threatened species of extinguishing.
That makes the owner, Tereza Kolontai, not to allow big groups visiting, only those that are interested on preservation and ecology, at least until the classification of vegetal and animal species is finished. The visits booked with Secretaria Municipal de Turismo is allowed.
The research work is being carried through in partnership with the UFV( Federal University of Viçosa), the UFF ( Federal Fluminense University) and Uerj ( Estadual University of Rio de Janeiro), foreseen for more two or three years.
A museum located in the reserve keeps a quantity of workmanships of artists of Buzios. Is located in an area close to 100 thousand square meters, where there was sea about 6.000 our 7.000 years ago. You can still see the floor full of white little shells.
About 40% of 1.300 species of bromelias that exist in Brazil are in Tauá.
The reserve occupies approximately three million square meters, full of typical vegetable formations of the region that serves of shelter and inn for migratory birds. Birds like quero-quero, cover 2400 Kilometers to arrive to Buzios.
One of the intriguing aspects is the Fossil beach, that existed between 4.500/7.500 BC. And was covered by the sea. In the quaternary period, when the sea retracted, the beach resurged. Looking to rescue the Brazilian culture, the ambientalist constructed an aboriginal hollow with objects confectioned for the proper indians guarani. Baptized as Casa da Reza, the construction consumed 10.800 straws of guaricanga, taquaras and varetas palms moored with tree rinds.
The strolls are guided and previously booked; Entrance is free, but there is the idea of charging a symbolic tax for the parks maintenance. The park is open from 8 AM to 6 PM, for the people being able to see the sun set.
